• Wheezing, nasal congestion, or trouble breathing
• Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting
• Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
• Anaphylaxis in severe cases

Individuals with a cod allergy may also be allergic to other types of fish. Cross-reactivity can occur with:

• Other white fish such as haddock, pollock, and hake.
• In some cases, different types of seafood, like shellfish, although this is less common.

• If you experience allergic symptoms after eating cod or other fish.
• If you have had a severe reaction to any type of fish.
• If you have a family history of fish allergies.
• If you’re introducing fish to a child’s diet who has other food allergies or a family history of fish allergies.

• Avoid eating cod and products containing cod.
• Be cautious when eating out, especially at seafood restaurants, and always inform the staff about your allergy.
• Read food labels carefully to check for cod or fish ingredients.
• Be aware of cross-contamination risks, especially in shared cooking environments.
• For mild reactions, over-the-counter antihistamines may help manage symptoms.
• Carry an epinephrine auto-injector if you have a history of severe allergic reactions.
• Consult with an allergist for specific advice and potential allergy testing.
